TU on the road

A week full of wins, finals and titles for our TU players! Five Juniors and Pros were going deep in their tournaments this week and in the end crowned their successful days with silverware.

Our girls in Canada broke the first grounds in their second week in North America. At the J4 in Burlington, Nastia Rakita and Izabelle Persson lived up to their previous finals run in Ontario. Being fourth seeded, they only lost twelve games on their way to the second final in a row. There they faced the second seeded team from Canada. Carter and Cross already got a doubles title on home soil under their belt this year and it was about to become a close final. The TU duo made a confident start and took the first set 6-4. Having the first set in the pocket, the Russian/Swedish combination clinched the second in convincing manner. The 6-4 6-3 secured the girls their first team title in only their second tournament together.

But also aside the tennis court it was an exciting week for the girls. TU coach Robert Senic took the chance to show his players his home country. The trio attended the hockey match between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Ottawa Senators. A great opportunity to get to now the country and the people!

Similar convincing as their TU colleagues in Canada, Gen-I Inoue and Taym Al-Azmeh marched through the doubles draw in Fujairah. They began their fourth tournament as a team with a 6-0 6-0 and ongoing continued to shine. In total, the topseeded team only lost 14 games before they could raise the trophy towards the Arabian sun.

But the doubles title wasn’t enough for Gen-I. Also the Singles draw of the J5 was led by the TU player and he fulfilled his role as tournaments favorite without a single stumble. In an embattled final against the Pakistani Huzaifa Rehmann, the 16 year old held nerves in both tiebreaks and clinched his second title of the week with a 7-6 7-6 win.

Not only our Juniors went through a successful week. Egypts Karim Maamoun once more served on home soil in Sharm El-Sheik. It is no secret, that the M15 is his absolute favorite tournament. Just three weeks ago Karim won his 15th ITF title on the venue. Also this time, Karim lived up to his reputation as ‚King of Sharm‘. Only in the semifinal against three seeded, Laurynas Grigelis, the tournaments favorite lost a set. With the 6-3 7-5 in the final against Spains Gonzalez, Maamoun already secured his sixth ITF title of the season, a new personal record for the 28-year old.

Despite not playing a tournament, also our Junior Jonas Forejtek has had an exciting week. He was invited to train with the eight best players of the season at the ATP Tour Finals in London. Hitting with legends such as Roger Federer is a great appreciation of Jonas’ improvement this year and a fantastic opportunity to learn from the best. 

home sweet home

A new face joined the TU this week. The eleven year old Japanese Daiya spent the first of his six weeks in Germany and was warmly welcomed by the twelve boys and girls of our junior program at the indoor courts of the Kempinski hotel.

Just two kilometers further, it was a coming and going on the venue of the Hessian Tennis Federation. The homecomers of the Luxembourg Trips mobilized their strengths before leaving for the J5 in Bulgaria at the end of the week.

Also, Karim Maamoun will get company by some of his TU colleagues next week at the ITF in Egypt. Best of luck to all our players for the upcoming week!
