TU on the road

In the second week of October nine TU players packed their suitcases and stepped on the plane to compete in tournaments all over the globe.

Especially Turkish soil seemed to suit the TU players well. At the W15 tournament in Antalya Romy Kölzer managed to reach the main draw final after making her way through the qualifying. There she fell in tight three sets against Russian opponent Mariia Tkacheva. Unfortunately, just a few hours later Romy had to take her second loss of the day in the doubles final against the topseeded duo from Netherlands. Despite a tough Sunday afternoon, a sublime week in Antalya by the 28-year old. Her first final of 2019 could give her a boost for the remaining weeks of the season. Whether she can keep up her level of playing will be seen at the start of the upcoming week. This time though, Romy doesn’t need to fight through qualifying. In the second edition of the W15 Antalya she is sixth seeded.

Also in the men’s draw great successes have been achieved. Mariano Hasenkopf managed to qualify for his second main draw within two weeks with just losing three games in qualies. There he lost in a tight three setter to Swedens Hansson.

Less fortune had Marvin Schramm who unfortunately was forced to withdraw in his second round qualies match due to injury.

Further east, three of our Junior Players played in the J5 in Kuwait. After three convincing wins in the qualifying, Sanid Brdar managed to keep the winning streak going in the main draw. It needed the tournaments top seeded Martin Katz to finally stop him in the semi final. Under extreme conditions of more than 40 degrees, Paul Armin Albrecht also made his way to the semi final alongside his Indian doubles partner. In a tight champions tiebreak they lost to the later tournament champions.

home sweet home

Despite many players being on travels, the days in the TU-base in Offenbach have been quite busy as well. Due to the yearly fall camps, the indoor courts at the base and at the Kempinski Hotel were filled with life. All 20 camp participants, aged 8-18 can proudly look back on two great weeks with many new experiences and improvements in their game.

But it wasn’t just practice taking place in Offenbach. On the 11th of October it was finally time for the prestigious TU vs. HTV Hockey-duel. The result: a convincing 6:1 win by the TU team. Especially coaching veteran Robert Senic as a goalie and Indian guest player Gokul delivered notable performances to secure the important win.

On Thursday, Alexander Waske and three of our Juniors stepped on the plane to fly to Japan for a series of Junior tournaments. We wish the competing guys a safe and successful time in Asia.
