TU on the road

While the last rally of the 2019 ATP season was played at the ATP Tour Finals in London, the TU had a packed tournament week on more time before the off-season. At a total of seven different tournaments, our pros and junior players served up. 

After the last week with a doubles and a singles title for our team in Dubai, the draw this time didn’t mean it well with Gen-I Inoue and Taym Al-Azmeh. After two undoubted victories each, the two TU colleagues met in the quarter finals. The 16- and 15-year-old played a great match in top form. After 6-2 2-6 the completely balanced match went into the third set. Taym in the end won the match 6-4 in the third. In the semi-final the next day, however, the later tournament champion Zsombor Velcz from Hungary proved to be too strong for him. With three trophies in the pocket, numerous new experiences and an enviably tan, the team around coach Vincent van den Honert can now get back on the plane to Germany satisfied.

At the high-class Challenger in Pune, Arjun Kadhe reached the final together with his doubles partner Saketh Myneni. The pairing had already proved their skills at the tournament victory in Chengdu this year. However, the all-Indian encounter against Raja/Ramanathan, who were topseeded, was lost by a narrow margin on Sunday.  

Karim Maamoun has become an established part of these reports with his appearances at the M15 in Egypt. Also this week he demonstrated his skills on the hard courts in Sharm El-Sheik. In the final he proved his comeback qualities after losing his first set and secured his seventh ITF title of the current season with a 6-7 6-3 6-4 against the Russian Zakharov. Towards the end of the year the Egyptian is in absolute top form, his tenth victory in a row is also the 50th of the year.

Also our kids of the junior program, which was launched in September, started their first tournament trip together this weekend. On Saturday morning, the TU team bus left for Krefeld. Here the Sevelen Open took place over two days, at which Tudor Batin could assert himself in the U14 main draw. In addition, Noel Schöne secured the title in the U16 category. With two trophies and many new experiences the crew went back to Offenbach on Sunday evening.

home sweet home

Despite the amount of players on tournament trips, it was a lively week at the grounds of the Hessian Tennis Federation. At wintery temperature outside our leading coaches trio around Alex Waske, Basti Suwanprateep and Björn Simon fired the players up.

Another training week with already wintry temperatures lies behind the Tennis-University. It was exciting days for our kids of the junior program. After more than two months of training and school they went on their first tournament trip. Of course necessary preparations had to be made. Some of the boys and girls needed new indoor shoes, so that on Wednesday after school a common trip to the Frankfurt Tennis-Point branch was undertaken.

Besides, the Offenbach facility is already getting prepared for the intense preseason. In addition, this year’s edition of the legendary TU-X-Max-Battle, which will take place on 18th of December, is being worked on at full speed.
