Tennis-University News – 3rd week of October
TU on the road
In the third week of October 14 TU players competed in six different tournaments on three continents.
After a successful last finals week in Antalya, Romy Kölzer was able to reach the quarter finals of the second edition of the Turkish W15.
Also Paul Armin Albrecht managed to get through to the quarterfinals at the J5 in Mishref, Kuwait. After two convincing wins, a 3:6 2:6 loss to Belgiums Orlowski followed.
Besides that, Karim Maamoun had a very impressive run in Egypt. Being topseeded on home soil, the 28-year old justified his role as favourite and clinched his fifth ITF title of the year. Throughout the whole week, he only lost one set in the final against Marek Gengel. This week underlines once more how comfortable Karim feels playing in his home country. All of his 15 titles he has won in Egypt.
Also on Challenger level, three TU players have been in action. At the CH125 in the Chinese Tennis Center, Japans Tatsuma Ito lost in the third round. Reaching the quarter-finals, TU top player and tournaments topseeded Praj Gunneswaran gained 25 ATP ranking points and thus remains a firm component of the Top 100.
A much shorter journey than his TU colleagues had our top talent Jonas Forejtek. At the Challenger in Ismaning he left his opponent Louis Wessels no chance winning 6:1 6:2. In the second round he faced the 300 spots higher ranked Stefano Napolitano. The serve of the 1,96m tall Italian on the fast carpet courts in Bavaria posed Jonas problems. Conceding a total of 21 aces the Czech lost after a strong first set 5:7 1:6.
Despite the loss a very promising week for Jonas after his latest successes in Davis Cup. His new career high of 527 shows he is in a good position for the transition from Juniors to the mens tour. Next week, also Jonas flys to Asia. As Juniors World number one he competes in the ITF Juniors Tour finals in Chengdu.
home sweet home
After the successful end of this years fall camp, TU quickly returned to everyday life.
On Friday it was time to say goodbye to our Japanese guest Hatsuki. The eleven year-old trained with our kids from the junior program for four weeks and quickly won everybody’s hearts. In his farewell speech, translated by our coach of Japanese origins Kenta, Hatsuki thanked the coaches and the other kids for their warm welcome and kindness. Together with Hatsuki his roommate So, who trained with our Junior players at the base, went back to Japan. We wish the two guys all the best and hope to welcome them at ours again next year !
