TU on the road

The year and thus the 2019 tennis season are drawing to a close with rapid steps. However, the long and intense tournament period at the TU didn’t cause any tiredness. Once again, the forces were mobilized in the final sprint of the season and although most of the players were already training at the base with a view to the start of the new season, the TU was still able to celebrate a title win.

In Haifa, Israel, Karlis Ozolins competed as the top seed of the 48th main draw. On his way to the final of J2 he only lost one set. In the final he met his friend and doubles partner Harry Wendelken from England. On the hard court under the Israeli sun the Latvian won 6:3 6:4 and could celebrate his fourth title of the season together with his mother, who had accompanied him to Israel. The 160 ITF points secured Karlis a spot within the Top 50 of the ITF Junior World Ranking.

Karlis also reached the semi-finals of the doubles competition alongside his opponent in the singles final.

However, the duo Burdet/Galfinger won a tight match in the Championsiebreak 10:8. The title in Israel does not mean the end of a long season for the 17-year-old. Next week he will be the favourite in front of his home crowd at the J3 in Liepaja. Afterwards Karlis will also start the well-deserved off-season.

At the M15 in Egypt Mariano Hasenkopf made it to the round of 16 last week. The hard, continuous work throughout the season was deservedly rewarded with Mariano’s first ATP point in the last week of the year. A great motivation for the 19-year-old to give his all in the upcoming pre-season to continue this performance in the new year.

home sweet home

After the last tournament weekend in Krefeld the kids of our junior program had a slow start into the new week. On Monday they had no training and therefore enough time for regeneration. So they were fit for the shortened weekend, when an additional school day at the private high school in Mannheim was scheduled for Saturday.

There was also a lot of action going on at the base. Besides the many juniors, who gave full power in training at the end of the year, some of our youngsters prepared themselves for the last tournament trip in 2019. In the next two weeks tournaments of the ITF Junior Circuit will take place in Norway with Tennis-University participation. 

Our coaches and office team also met outside the htv facility at the weekend. On Friday we celebrated the wedding of our long time coach Robert Senic. In order to present his Canadian family his chosen homecountry Germany appropriately, some of the guests appeared in German leather trousers and the expected cheerful evening was on. We wish his wife Sandra and him all the best for their future together!
